- Clarion University Students Clock 577 Volunteer Hours
Feb. 06, 2012
During the 2011 fall semester, Clarion University students
enrolled in Rehab 250: Helping Relationships, taught by Dr. Greg
Clary, professor of rehabilitative sciences, provided at least 12
volunteer/service learning hours for each student with a human
services agency. A total of 577 clock hours were provided by 40
students, including Golden LivingCenter--Clarion.

Kids from the local Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club
recently experienced a living history lesson and strengthened
relationships with their elders at Golden LivingCenter East in
Rochester. Through the organization’s Sharing with Seniors Program,
the teenagers with Modern Woodmen’s Youth Service Club No. 1645
shared observances in the advancement of technology over the past
50 to 100 years.

Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and the communities it serves, the
organization’s new chairman told members Thursday.
Tommy Herndon, director of Golden LivingCenter, took office last
week as the 2012 chairman during the chamber’s annual meeting at
the Baldwin County Coliseum in Robertsdale.

- Golden Living exec named to IRS committee
Jan. 23, 2012
The Internal Revenue Services has appointed Holly Sutton,
director of tax at Golden Living, to its Information Reporting
Program Advisory Committee (IRPAC).
Sutton is among the five new members of the 22-member IRS
Committee. These Committee members represent Americans paying
taxes, as well as tax professionals, business and state tax
administrators, and payroll providers. Sutton will serve a
three-year term.

- Rawson earns AAA Star Award

Dena Rawson has been giving of her time and talents to further the
cause of area senior citizens for nearly seven years. For those
efforts and for having consistently gone "above and beyond" through
her position as director of O.A.K.S. Senior Nutrition Center in
Dexter, Rawson was named recently as one of the Area Agency on
Aging's Star Award recipients.

- Pike Central middle school donates TV to Golden Living Center

Golden LivingCenter in Petersburg, Virginia, got a nice surprise
from Pike Central Middle School recently. School representatives
came to the facility to donate a 43" flat-screen TV for Christmas
to residents.
"We are very thrilled and excited about this addition for the
facility," said Victoria Wynn of GoldenLiving Center. "Thank you to
everyone who donated and to Pike Central Middle School for thinking
of us!"

- ‘Santa to a Senior’ brings cheer to local residents

Santa to a Senior, a popular campaign that delivers hundreds of
gifts to seniors in Melrose and surrounding towns in Massachusetts,
was a success again this year.
Ed Stewart, executive director of Golden LivingCenter – The
Elmhurst, expressed appreciation for being included in the gift
drive: “It is nice that we can make sure that everyone in our
program gets to participate in the holiday season. The members here
love the gifts but they are equally appreciative of the thought
behind the effort.”

- Western Nebraska Community College gives back to surrounding communities

Western Nebraska Community College – Sidney Campus is "giving
back" to its surrounding communities by donating blankets to
panhandle living centers and nursing homes. Yesterday, WNCC donated
blankets to Garden County Health Services/Long Term Care (Oshkosh),
Golden LivingCenter (Sidney), Heritage of Bridgeport (Bridgeport),
Kimball County Manor (Kimball), and Miller Memorial Care Center
(Chappell).

celebrated Nurse Practitioner Week. Joining them were state Rep.
Mario Scavello and state Rep. Rosemary M. Brown, and members of the
Pocono Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Practice Nurses
Association. In commemoration, the group also held a luncheon.

- Richland nursing home residents get a visit from Santa, Mary Kay Reps
Dec. 27, 2011
The community and representatives of Mary Kay cosmetics made
Christmas brighter on two occasions last week for residents of a
Richland Township personal care home.
On Dec. 19, representatives of Mary Kay presented gifts to a
couple of dozen residents of Golden Living Center-Richland, located
at 349 Vo-Tech Drive, to bring them the joy of Christmas through
their Adopt A Grandparent program.

- Songs to Soothe the Soul

Virginia Smith spent the last months of her life sitting
expressionless in her bed or on her sofa. But when members of the
Doylestown Comfort Choir went to her Northampton home one evening
to sing to her, daughter Sherry Smith said, “Her face just lit up
and glowed. She smiled. She actually tried to sing along with some
of the songs.”
The full choir met once a month to practice the music, and
divided into smaller groups of six to visit hospice patients at
Pine Run, Neshaminy Manor, Golden Living and Heritage Towers.
